Towa Tei – Taste Of You feat. Taprikk Sweezee (Fakesch Remix) - From the excellent Exchange remix collection from Michael Fakesch, of Funkstorung fame. Towa Tei is probably most famous for being part of Deee-Lite, but there’s much more to this international DJ who has worked with some of the greats in hip hop to experimental music. This track is what I imagine what Prince would sound if he embraced electronics more.

Yeasayer – Ambling Alp – Another Brooklyn band, and quite similar to Animal Collective in their use of melody/harmony and electronics. Sweeping and epic, this track should have the hipsters holding hands knee deep in irony.

Autechre – known(1)(link removed due to incorrect track, thx NCT) The Kings of the stuttered beat. From their new album, Oversteps. They seem to have found that low part of the sonic spectrum once again, so please don’t drive while listening to this tape.

Jahcoozi – Barricaded feat. Barbara Panther - From Ellen Allien’s BPitchControl label, Barefoot Wanderer is the the new release from this left of center group. Mixing abstract beats into a somewhat more traditional song structure.

Yuki Murata – Glitch – Off of the incredibly touching and delicate piano based album, Films. All improvised, and especially in this piece, the space left between the notes helps to create the life within the song.

Lali Puna – Rest Your Head – Off of their new album, Our Inventions. Nothing particularly new, but still the best albums for napping. Seriously.

Fire Alarm, Twin Peaks 2008

I’ve started to reorganize my music collection, mainly cd’s and vinyl. Since I’ve bought albums over and over again, or spent days looking for a particular album, a reorg was long overdue. Going through some of my vinyl, I’ve ripped them to my computer, crackles and all. I think that’s part of the charm of vinyl, besides the overall warmth of the sound.

Some news out there that an Arrested Development movie may be on the horizon. I’m not the biggest fan of TV, but Conan O’Brien may be right when he says that we are in a “golden age of television”. And he isn’t referring to reality TV. AD was the funniest and best show I have ever seen on television. There were so many layers to the humor that repeated viewings were necessary. I guess that’s why it’s done so well on DVD. The news of the movies makes me want to do GOB’s (pronounced Joe-B) patented chicken dance. For fans of Superbad, Michael Cera’s greatness was clearly on display on AD playing a character named George Michael on the show. You just have to watch a few episodes to get hooked on the humor and it’s that type of humor that may be difficult for some to understand, called funny-ha-ha-laugh-humor.

Here are 3 rare tracks from my vinyl collection, as well as a new one from the upcoming Quaristice album from Autechre.

Beastie Boys – Caught In The Middle Of A 3-Way Mix (Hip Hop) – from the Paul’s Boutique era, this track is from the promo ep of shadrach called An Evening At Home With Shadrach, Meshach And Abednego.

The Stone Roses – Fools Gold (Rabbit In The Moon’s Message To the Majors Long Version) – this tracks is from the US 12″ of Fools Gold released in 1999 and it’s one minute longer than the regular remix version of this song.

The Avalanches – A Different Feeling (Ernest St. Laurent Remix) (House) – very syrupy, but such a great melody that tops the original version of this song. one of the first great bands to use samples and what has now been coined mashups. i guess it takes almost a decade to get the clearances for all of the samples ?

Autechre – Tankakern (Abstract Beats) – broken minds never sounded so good.
