Streets of this Town

A group of fans in Prague got together to shoot a Radiohead concert from August 23, 2009. The band provided the audio masters. Download here.

Grant Lee Buffalo has reformed and they are touring again. Each of their four releases are great albums and they put on a great show, so go check out this dynamic band, and remember to bring your earplugs because those acoustic instruments amped are quite loud.

We went to see Arcade Fire last weekend and it was a bit of a disappointment. Their act didn’t translate well to a bigger venue, and many of their newer midtempo songs lulled the audience to sleep.

If you are/were, or trying to be a Soul Coughing band, check out this great blog, The Unheard Music for a megapost on rarities from this unique band.

Greg Dulli – The Killer - A live rendition from his Twilight Singers repertoire. I can’t wait to see him perform solo next month.  From his venture with the Afghan Whigs to the Twilight Singers and now, The Gutter Twins with Mark Lanegan, Dulli continues his soul wrenching  delivery.

The Books Ft. Jose Gonzalez – Cello Song – A Nick Drake classic that opened up the movie The Blind Side? From the incredible Dark Was The Night compilation. Gonzalez, in a way, is very similar to Drake in their soft tonal delivery with the perfect sonic backing provided by The Books.

Best Coast – When I’m With You – A great pop band which I get confused with Beach House. The guitar fuzz may confuse your sunny eyewear choices, but there should be no doubt of the tap in your toe.

James Blake – I Only Know (What I Know Now) – Hyped as the next big thing in Dubstep. His compositions have always had that Hall & Oates Human Touch, but I think this masterpiece creates a new shine and path to see the worthiness of Blake.

The Summer Days Of Ollie

Posted by admin on Jul 26th, 2010

The “move” which is only 1.5 miles away has brought about cooler temperatures and a gusting wind. As we settle into our new headquarters, we haven’t discovered anything new, or kind of new worth posting, until now. Here are some tunes to keep you cool, or in our case, to keep us warm in these summer months.

Mount Kimbie – Would Know - This is supposed to be under the Dubstep genre, but nowadays everything with a stuttered broken beat is considered dubstep. This electronic based release is eclectic and sounds different while at the same time sounding familiar. Music for the hyperbaric chamber.

The Books – The Story Of Hip-Hop – From the new full length release, The Way Out, this duo return with more offerings that work well in a library setting. Their live shows are not to be missed because they mix the visuals which are old archived footage like their music. It feels like a presentation from members of the A/V club from high school.

Sleigh Bells – Rill Rill – The music fills all of the space in your ears. It pulls, and carries crashing guitars and booming bass which is what makes their album, Treats one of the most rewarding listens of the year.

Nostalgia 77 – Quiet Dawn (Example of Twelves Remix) – From their One Offs, Remixes & B-Sides release, something that fits nicely into 1950′s while being completely modern.

Bon Iver & St. Vincent – Roslyn – From the mega tween hit Twilight: New Moon soundtrack, this is another slow burner featuring Annie Clark.

Animal Collective – Bleeding – This track is off of the Fall Be Kind EP, and it’s another trippy journey into AC’s outter world of pop and dreams.

Tune-Yards – Real Live Flesh - The re-release, remastered version of Bird Brains includes this new R&B track which is one of the highlights from her live show. I’ll post up the live version pretty soon.

Prefuse 73 – So Much Over Time - A spliced-up number from Meditation Upon Meditations (The Japanese Diaries), which will be released shortly. Tourettes-inspired beats?

Milinal – Burn In Sky Ya - From Russian producer Yakovlev Valentine, and off of Audiobulb. This ambient flavored album features a Brendan Monroe design for the album cover which is similar to the Awakening shirt at Red Choo Choo.

FoeWeel 3.0 Welcome

Ocean Beach, 2009

Welcome to the new look, a slightly different smell and the taste that’s always pleasing to my ears, and hopefully your ears as well. My desktop is filled up with new music and my fridge is full of tickets for upcoming shows to Lykke Li, Modest Mouse, Animal Collective, Rocco DeLucca and hopefully Iron & Wine, so it’s time once again to fill your Facebook stuffed minds with an alternative serving of the present and the past.

TV On The Radio – Heroes (David Bowie) – from the new War Child compilation. a pretty cool take with Kyp’s falsetto working well over David Sitek’s hectic production.

Mochipet and Spank Rock – Far Left (Funktronmix) – David Wang, the insanity behind Mochipet once again serves up one of his Daly Citified mixes of Spank Rock.

The Books Ft. Jose Gonzalez – Cello Song (Nick Drake) – from the Dark Was The Night a 4AD compilation benefitting the Red Hot organization.  This track from two of my favorite artists is a cover of Nick Drake’s classic song.
