Towa Tei – Taste Of You feat. Taprikk Sweezee (Fakesch Remix) - From the excellent Exchange remix collection from Michael Fakesch, of Funkstorung fame. Towa Tei is probably most famous for being part of Deee-Lite, but there’s much more to this international DJ who has worked with some of the greats in hip hop to experimental music. This track is what I imagine what Prince would sound if he embraced electronics more.

Yeasayer – Ambling Alp – Another Brooklyn band, and quite similar to Animal Collective in their use of melody/harmony and electronics. Sweeping and epic, this track should have the hipsters holding hands knee deep in irony.

Autechre – known(1)(link removed due to incorrect track, thx NCT) The Kings of the stuttered beat. From their new album, Oversteps. They seem to have found that low part of the sonic spectrum once again, so please don’t drive while listening to this tape.

Jahcoozi – Barricaded feat. Barbara Panther - From Ellen Allien’s BPitchControl label, Barefoot Wanderer is the the new release from this left of center group. Mixing abstract beats into a somewhat more traditional song structure.

Yuki Murata – Glitch – Off of the incredibly touching and delicate piano based album, Films. All improvised, and especially in this piece, the space left between the notes helps to create the life within the song.

Lali Puna – Rest Your Head – Off of their new album, Our Inventions. Nothing particularly new, but still the best albums for napping. Seriously.

Fake Caps of Wisdom from your Teeth

X-Ray of Sara’s Mouth

I have learned that a good night’s sleep greatly improves one’s outlook, as well as output for the day.

It seems that as though in a 10 day span in late May I have tickets for Doves, Moderat, Flight Of The Conchords, Animal Collective, Black Moth Super Rainbow, and a few weeks earlier Iron & Wine.

A new game for you Scrabble peeps out there:  DeepLeap

I dig the Big Thrill Clock.

Now, here’s my propaganda:

Lali Puna – I Like Rain (Jean Paul Sartre Experience) – from the Not Given Lightly compilation which are covers of New Zealand’s rich pop history. A Morr records collection highlighted by some new material by the always mood enlightening Lali Puna.

Grizzly Bear – Alligator – Off of the 2004 release, Horn Of Plenty. It sounds like it should be played in a crib telling the child the basics of life in a sweet lullabye.

Dirty Projectors – I Will Truck – This track from 2005 cautions “don’t trust the axis, or the allies”.  I don’t trust anything , or anyone that’s first letter is an “A”.

Adam Beyer – A Walking Contradiction III – The first two installments were released on the Plus label, and this b-side continues the thumpy dig that Beyer is famous for by adding that extra step to keep you from falling asleep.

Trying To Show You A Reality That You Didn’t Even Know Existed

Posted by admin on Jun 17th, 2007

clarion alley series. 2007

you are numb to what is presented in front of you
you take it as reality
the only existence of whatever form you know
in reality
something more exists
one that has to be sought out
because it cannot be easily digested
by the masses
and now you know
or you just don’t care.

Aesop Rock – The Next Big Thing (Hip Hop) – this track was originally from a book/7″ collaboration done with jeremy fish . it’s also on the compilation from the new issue of the believer from the mcsweeney people.

Nina Simone – Backlash Blues (Blues) – when i first heard this song being played on a lexus commercial with john “my music should be sponsored by ambien” legend, i was wondering if nina simone would have allowed this if she were alive today. who knows? cat power covering cat steven for the diamond people. what a shame that the ad industry has to once again use an artist’s soul to sell something that people don’t need.

Dntel – I’d Like To Know feat. Lali Puna (Abstract Ambient) – a collaboration off of dntel’s new album, ‘dumb luck’. a song that would fit perfectly in lali puna’s dream-filled cataloge.

The Afghan Whigs – Faded (Rock) – these guys have the best opening and closing songs on albums. ‘gentlemen’ and ‘black love’ are two of my favorites and take you on a ride like a rollercoaster. at first, it’s eases you into the first fall and you know with the slow build up to the top, it will unleash quite a drop into the black soul of greg dulli. this track is the last song off of ‘black love’ and clearly shows the whisper to scream existence that made up some of the best songs from the whigs. get their retrospective ‘unbreakable’ which features two new tracks and the new track ‘magazine’ shows that they still have some more songs of longing and desperation to share. check out summer’s kiss for more info.
