The Summer Days Of Ollie

Posted by admin on Jul 26th, 2010

The “move” which is only 1.5 miles away has brought about cooler temperatures and a gusting wind. As we settle into our new headquarters, we haven’t discovered anything new, or kind of new worth posting, until now. Here are some tunes to keep you cool, or in our case, to keep us warm in these summer months.

Mount Kimbie – Would Know - This is supposed to be under the Dubstep genre, but nowadays everything with a stuttered broken beat is considered dubstep. This electronic based release is eclectic and sounds different while at the same time sounding familiar. Music for the hyperbaric chamber.

The Books – The Story Of Hip-Hop – From the new full length release, The Way Out, this duo return with more offerings that work well in a library setting. Their live shows are not to be missed because they mix the visuals which are old archived footage like their music. It feels like a presentation from members of the A/V club from high school.

Sleigh Bells – Rill Rill – The music fills all of the space in your ears. It pulls, and carries crashing guitars and booming bass which is what makes their album, Treats one of the most rewarding listens of the year.

Nostalgia 77 – Quiet Dawn (Example of Twelves Remix) – From their One Offs, Remixes & B-Sides release, something that fits nicely into 1950′s while being completely modern.

Church Street Series, 2008

It’s a great thing to meet people who inspire you to be a better person. A muse, on life……….

Bebel Gilberto & Vinicius Cantuaria – Batucada - From the Next Stop Wonderland movie starring Hope Davis with a minor role for Philip Seymour Hoffman. It has a great Bossa Nova soundtrack as well as score from Mark Isham.

Bonobo – In Between The Lines (Nostalgia 77 Remix) (Alternate Unreleased Mix ) – A modern take on some old favor which can never taste bad. I picture the dark smokey club where seedy characters are making deals and this house band is going off.

John Lee Hooker – Annie Mae – If you are ever in San Francisco, please visit the Boom Boom room which is owned by the late God himself. Despair and longing never sounded so sweet.

Sigur Ros – Gobbledigook – The first single from Með Suð í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust, their new album. They’ve tweaked their sound a bit, but it’s still an incredible album that has all of the majestic soundscapes of their previous efforts with a more direct presentation.
